Down the road past rose’s orange grove there’s a tiny little shack where my story unfolds
About the day I met Satan’s daughter in that cursed Florida black water

She caught me by surprise by the side of the road
I yelled is there some place you need to go
She said I ain’t going nowhere but if you want to accompany me
I have some things I think you might like to see

If to the swamp you must go
There’s some things you need to know
Dancing with the dead is the greatest thrill
But if the devil don’t get you the mosquitoes will

Don’t jump in Dead River

She led me to dock surrounded by a swampy sea, the smell of death and cypress trees
She said it’s hot we should go for a swim, then she took off her clothes and she jumped right in

I didn’t know what to do
I’d rather stick to water that was blue
But the mosquitoes we’re eating me alive
So I took off my clothes and I went for a dive

The water felt good but was as dark as could be
So I pulled my head up so that I could see
I looked for the girl but to my surprise
A grinning gator staring in me in my eyes
